Description

• Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, or ORAC, provides a measure of the strength of a dose of antioxidants. It is a relatively recent development (1993) that measures the effectiveness of the given antioxidants against a particular set of free radicals. In recent years, ORAC has been used to "rank" foods according to their antioxidant ability
• Antioxidants play a role in the absorption of nutrients such as Omega 3 compounds. Free radicals within the body can oxidise omega 3 compounds, changing their chemical structure and hence rendering them useless. Whilst vitamins C and E are useful antioxidants that can help stop this from happening, it is useful to supplement these with extra antioxidants
• Lamberts OracOmega is designed to supply a 1200mg dose of fish oil, together with powerful antioxidants in order to protect the Omega 3 fatty acids from free radicals and hence allow more of these Omega 3's to function. These antioxidants have been measured on the ORAC scale and have the value of 2500. Of course, until other supplements have been measured in this way, the score is a little hard to compare against anything. But this at least leads the way into having some form of measurable way of describing the strength of antioxidant
• The antioxidant compounds used are green tea, grapeseed, rosemary and oregano. It's good to have a variety of antioxidants: they are all comprised of different compounds, acting on different free radicals within the body
